Each system consists of an environmentally controlled
weatherproof housing (above)
containing the camera and a "TouchTracker"
---->
remotely operated console which
controls all of the camera functions (pan,
tilt, zoom & focus) from the inside of the science centers. Click

The SpeedDome
incorporates a high resolution camera with 16X optical zoom combined with
an 8X digital magnifier, providing the power of 128X zoom. This allows the
Scouts within the science centers to make very detailed, close up
observations of wildlife at the camps. The dome's advanced digital signal
processing provides camera positioning, lens control and video processing.
Each
SpeedDome can be programmed with up to 96 Presets via the Touch Tracker
controller. One Touch Tracker console can operate up to 16
SpeedDome's. A "Home Position" feature enables
users to establish a default view or a pattern can be entered for continuous
showing of various scenes. These features allow the Science
Centers to let the camera's switch automatically between several
nature habitat views (Bird feeder - to - Deer Feeder - to -
Squirrel Feeder, etc).
The Camera Housing operates from a low voltage cable and is
completely weatherproof and thermostatically controlled. They have
a built in heating system which prevents ice, snow & fog from
accumulating on the dome in the winter and also incorporates a
cooling system so the units don't overheat in the summer. When
properly installed, the SpeedDome's can withstand winds in
excess of 150 MPH.
The systems (valued at approx. $10,000 each) also come with high
resolution monitors, outdoor control cable, mounting brackets and low voltage
transformers.
In the near future we hope to transmit live images from the
centers
onto the Internet. By putting this on the World Wide Web, anyone
with internet access can benefit from the systems. This will also
allow classroom instruction at remote locations across the
country.
